Passionate about figuring things out and helping other homeowners do the same.

Welcome to Do It Yourself Junkie! We’re the Mercer family: Dustie, RC, Drake, and Baylor—and we’re here to bring folks together to inspire, teach, and share with one another all that they have learned through years of hands-on home projects.

As co-founders of Do It Yourself Junkie, Dustie and RC have tackled everything from home renovations and furniture rehabs to the most epic project of all—building our home from the ground up. Along the way, our kids, Drake and Baylor, have been right there with us. Drake has been a critical part of getting things done—running PEX, wiring, framing, and painting—while Baylor brings a creative touch with her love of design and decor (and an impressive ability to fit in all the small spaces!).

We’ve learned a lot (sometimes the hard way!), and now we want to share it with you. Our goal is to build a community of DIYers—one where we can all share tips, techniques, and lessons learned to help each other. You’ll find video how-to guides, maintenance reminders, and plenty of humor along the way to make your DIY journey fun and rewarding.

Challenging the status quo is what Dustie does best, and looking for more information about how to best complete the process allows her and RC to make this not just a building adventure but also a learning experience. “It’s okay, we can fix that later.”

After 20+ years in the quick-serve restaurant industry as a consultant and multi-unit franchise owner for one of the largest global brands, RC sold his business to pursue his passion for building. His love for "building" is not limited to just home projects , his passion is truly with custom cars and bikes. “I can build that but I’m gonna need a new tool”

Drake Mercer

Drake thrives with explicit instructions and a clear finish line. He wants to check that box, and like a true engineer he does it exactly as he is told. He's truly kind hearted and always willing to help, although he's may be slightly resentful he had to pause his video game.

Baylor Mercer

Head of Climbing in Small Spaces

If asked, Baylor would likely say she is Head of ALL Things. Which in fact is more true than false, she is critical to any DIY project. One of her unique strengths is that she can fit in places no one else can: attics, crawls spaces, you name it!

She also has an entrepreneurial spirit, never forgetting to submit her billable hours for payment.
